Long term visitors like missionaries, peace corp.


Travelers to countries where vaccines and medical care are scarce.

Contraindications:

Allergy to previous dose

Allergy to egg protein

Current moderate-severe illness

Side-effects:

Pain and redness at injection site
Mild flu symptoms
Some receiving boosters can develop hives, rash and itching

Dosing:

Amount: 1 ml (cc)
Route: intramuscular injection
Number of doses: 3
Schedule: days 0,7,21 for primary series
Booster every 3 years if at continued risk

Timing:

4 weeks before departure

Can be given with other vaccines and antibiotics
